Challenge

Animation Digital Network (ADN) sought to modernize its infrastructure to better deploy and manage its growing microservices. Initially relying on ECS, they faced limitations in controlling compute resources and scaling, which hindered their ability to scale efficiently. As their microservices expanded, ADN encountered challenges in managing resource allocation effectively, resulting in higher operational costs.

The customer also required adequate monitoring and observability tools for both microservices and compute resources. The existing setup no longer met performance and cost-control requirements, compelling them to seek a more advanced solution.

Implementation

TrackIt proposed migrating ADN’s infrastructure to Amazon Elastic Kubernetes Service (EKS), which offered better scalability and control. An EKS cluster with Karpenter was deployed to handle automatic scaling, ensuring more efficient resource utilization and cost management. Helm and Kubernetes were introduced to streamline microservices deployment and orchestration. To address ADN’s need for better monitoring, Grafana was integrated to track microservices and infrastructure performance in real time. This solution revamped ADN’s microservices deployment process while providing a scalable, cost-effective, and observable environment.

Outcome – Improved Scalability, Cost Efficiency, and Observability for ADN

The migration to EKS significantly improved ADN’s ability to scale resources up and down automatically, optimizing cost control. The integration of Karpenter allowed ADN to dynamically adjust compute resources, ensuring better efficiency and lower overhead costs. The addition of Helm and Kubernetes enhanced the deployment process, enabling smoother updates and management of microservices.

The observability stack, powered by Grafana, provided ADN with deep insights into the health and performance of its infrastructure. This overhaul transformed ADN’s infrastructure into a more resilient, scalable, and cost-efficient environment for their growing needs.

Metrics

  • Scaling efficiency improved by up to 30%, with Karpenter optimizing compute resource allocation.
  • Operational costs were reduced by 25%, thanks to more efficient resource utilization and dynamic scaling.
  • Monitoring and observability improvements led to a 40% faster identification of issues, increasing uptime.

“Working with TrackIt felt like having an extension of our own team. They understood our challenges from day one and guided us through every step of our migration to EKS. The improvements in scalability, cost efficiency, and observability have been game-changing for us. We no longer worry about resource limitations or unexpected costs—everything just works. TrackIt’s expertise and hands-on approach made all the difference.” – Alan Corbel, CTO, Animation Digital Network
